Ol Pejeta Conservancy

Ol Pejeta Conservancy is a premier wildlife sanctuary in Kenya, located in the Laikipia region near the foothills of Mount Kenya. Spanning approximately 360 square kilometers (140 square miles), it is one of Kenya’s most important and well-managed conservancies, renowned for its successful conservation efforts, particularly for endangered species like the black and white rhinos.

One of the standout features of Ol Pejeta is that it is home to the last two northern white rhinos in the world, making it a critical center for rhino conservation. The conservancy also boasts the largest population of black rhinos in East Africa. Apart from rhinos, Ol Pejeta is home to the Big Five—lions, elephants, buffaloes, leopards, and rhinos—alongside other wildlife such as giraffes, zebras, cheetahs, and more than 300 bird species.

A unique attraction within Ol Pejeta is the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary, the only place in Kenya where visitors can see chimpanzees. The sanctuary provides a refuge for orphaned and rescued chimpanzees, offering a chance to learn about their behavior and conservation.
